From Mrs. Cooper

September 1, 2009

Updated September 11, 2009

This is the first in a long line of updates you will receive this year concerning scholarships.  Hopefully, you will carry this home for your parents to see and it will provide you with helpful information concerning college admissions and scholarships.  The newsletters will appear on the website as well.    Preparing for college and the “real world” is hard work.  You must become organized and stay on top of deadlines.  Scholarships are out there, but they do not just appear, you must earn them.  Please feel free to ask any questions that you might have.  I encourage your parents to ask questions as well.

University of North Alabama – Academic scholarships are based on ACT scores and leadership scholarships are based on the student’s resume and ACT score.  UNA will offer full tuition scholarships to students with 29 ACT scores.   Valedictorian and Salutatorian Scholarships – ACT score of 18 - $3200 per year.  Leadership scholarships – Based on Resume’ - $1200 to Full tuition.  Charles N. Financial Aid Information

Provided by Bevill State Community College

Hamilton Campus

Financial Aid is money to help you and your family with educational expenses.

Grants and scholarships are the primary types of assistance available.

Bevill State Community College does not participate in any federal student loan program.

To complete your Pell application on line the first step is to apply for a PIN (personal identification number) for you and one parent.  The PIN website:  www.PIN.ed.gov

INFORMATION YOU WILL NEED TO COMPLETE THE APPLICATION FOR THE 2009-2010 YEAR:

  • Your federal tax return for 2008 and your parent’s federal tax return for 2008.  If you do not have a copy you can call 1-800-829-1040 or go online to www.ird.gove to request a copy.  If your file is chosen for verification you will have to provide a copy of these tax returns to the financial aid office, so be sure to keep them.

  • Your social security number and your parents’ social security numbers and dates of birth.  You will also need to know when they were married.

  • Information about any other types of income.  Some examples are social security benefits, and child support.  If your file is chosen for verification you will have to provide proof of this income.

The school code for all Bevill State campus’ is 005733

The website for Pell application is www.fafsa.ed.gov – There will be no paper applications

It will take approximately 7 days for BSCC to have access to your information.

If you do not file taxes – you must provide income information.

After you have completed the application on line it is a good idea to print a copy of your student aid report to have for your records.
